Award Presentation

Fran Laserson, President, The Moody's Foundation, welcomed everyone
to the event and spoke about why The Moody's Foundation created the
competition as its signature project, the importance of numeracy and the
ability to work with information in society.

James Crowley, Executive Director, SIAM, spoke about SIAM's
enthusiasm to be a part of this contest and the unique perspective we
bring to the issue of increasing the pipeline of kids wanting to study or
pursue careers in applied and computational mathematics.

Lee Seitelman, Head Consultant for the M3 Challenge
organization, presented short sumaries of each team's approach to their
solution as he announced the winning teams, in reverse order of prize
level.

The audience at the Down Town Association eagerly waited for the winners
to be announced.

Staples High School team members with their giant check—literally
and figuratively.

Dan Cleary, SIAM Marketing Communications Associate and
M3 Challenge Communications, and Ben Fusaro,
M3 Consultant, M3 Head Judge and Department of
Mathematics, Florida State University take a breather together after the
award ceremony announcements were made.
