New in 2025, MathWorks Math Modeling Challenge introduced the SPARK Awards for teams that develop Solutions with Passion, Resourcefulness, and Knowledge. These scholarship awards recognize teams from Title 1 schools in the U.S. that demonstrate excellence and creativity in solving one or more parts of the Challenge problem.
Of the 794 papers submitted in this year’s M3 Challenge, we are excited to share the following teams have earned recognition as 2025 SPARK Award recipients:
- SPARK Winner, Team 17756, Clare High School from Clare, Michigan, won a $3,000 team scholarship.

- SPARK Runner-up, Team 18097, Druid Hills High School from Atlanta, Georgia, won a $2,000 team scholarship.

- SPARK Third Place, Team 18067, Marana High School from Tucson, Arizona, won a $1,000 team scholarship. Students Matthew Rohen-Trapp, Tyler Winterton, and Kallem Rhein, coached by Mark Bixby
